Open the doors to Washington, D.C. for your students

Ready to participate this fall?

Everything college students today need to launch their careers

It's easier than ever for your students to access a high-impact living, learning and working experience in one of the world's most influential cities.

Since 1975, The Washington Center (TWC) has been the premier semester-based internship-for-credit program in Washington, D.C. We partner with 400 colleges and universities across the U.S. and the world, who see us as an extension of their campuses. They know their students will have the same level of support they would expect at school without the institution having to invest capital and human resources to operate a semester in Washington.

Partner schools typically offer a semester's worth of credit for participating in the program. And now, TWC can welcome students from schools where credit arrangements are not currently available.

School of Record helps level the playing field

Starting in the Fall of 2021, Elon University will serve as TWC’s official school of record, granting up to 15 academic credits for the Spring and Fall semesters, and 12 credits for the summer term.

Our partnership with Elon University presents an opportunity for students outside TWC's network of partner schools to easily access an immersive semester in Washington, D.C., preparing them to launch their careers.

Unparalleled standards for internships

TWC has spent nearly five decades honing the recipe for high-impact internship experiences. We personalize internship placement and career development training. Students gain critical soft skills—including adaptability, global/Intercultural fluency, communication and teamwork—and build professional networks.

A living experience designed with students in mind

Each semester we host more than 200 hundred students who live, learn and work together in a diverse, global community.  TWC provides students the 24-hour support and service they’ve come to expect on campus, but in a metropolitan setting.

Data that drives participant growth, and success

Students undergo the Skills Survey Career Readiness Report, an HR tool designed to assess skills. This tool uses 360-evaluations from the student, their supervisor, and their colleagues to measure expertise in eight core competencies that employers want. The Report enables students to reflect on their internship experiences in a tangible and data-driven way.

TWC students were rated higher than the national average by their employers in every single NACE competency.
